About this event

  • 3 hours

Come celebrate Black Birders Week ’24 by joining Through The Trees Collective (T3C) and collaborative partners Oregon Metro and and Tualatin Hills Parks & Rec District (THPRD), for a BIPOC Nature Walk – where we’ll embark on a journey of discovery and connection at the beautiful Cooper Mountain Nature Park!

This enriching gathering is designed to welcome BIPOC community members of all ages into the embrace of nature, where we'll connect, heal, and learn together. Our day begins with a grounding circle, setting intentions and fostering a spirit of unity. From there, knowledgeable nature educators will guide us on a trail walk, sharing insights into the local flora, fauna, and the stories they hold.

This event is more than just a walk - it's a step towards reclaiming our space in natural environments that have felt distant for far too long. It is an opportunity to see the natural world through a new lens, appreciate its wonders, and build community with one another.

Whether you're a seasoned birder or new to outdoor adventures, this event promises a safe and inclusive space for exploration and shared experiences. So, let's come together to celebrate our connection to the earth and to each other!

This event is made possible through the support of the amazing folks at Oregon Metro and Tualatin Hills Parks & Rec District (THPRD), and is held in partnership with Black AF In Stem -the creators of the national Black Birders Week.

ABOUT BLACK BIRDERS WEEK:

Black Birders Week 2024 is an enriching and adventurous celebration of community, birds, and the outdoors - and is held in conjunction with the nationally recognized 5th Annual “Black Birders Week” (May 26th- June 1st) created by the organization Black AF In STEM.

From Black AF In Stem: "This annual event celebrates Black birders, naturalists, and outdoor enthusiasts, highlighting their contributions to the natural world and advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the birding community.

This year's theme Wings of Justice: Soaring for Change underscores the commitment to bird conservation, environmental justice, and community care. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating Black birders and advocating for more inclusive outdoor spaces."

T3C's Black Birders Week '24 aims to create safe and inclusive spaces for BIPOC folks of all ages/gender expressions to connect with the outdoors, particularly in environments that have historically been inaccessible to them. Our goal is to equip the community with enough insight, comfort, and autonomy to embark on future expeditions on their own.
